39 British Columbians have received the Royal Canadian Humane Association Bravery Awards. Three of the recipients were men who entered a burning plane that crashed near YVR in October 2011 and helped passengers get out despite the intense heat from the flames. Jeremy Kerr, Shawn Nagurny and John Redmond received the silver medal for bravery. Kerr says what happened that day two years ago forever changed his lif, "(It's given me much more appreciation for life, for safety. I've certainly changed my daily habits, even when I cross the street. It just made me realize how fragile we are."
Six others, who used fire extinguishers to keep the exit of the plane clear and helped passengers get out, were awarded bronze medals for bravery.
