While the Vancouver Art Gallery looks to secure federal and provincial funding in order to move locations, the leader of the NDP says BC has already contributed.
Adrian Dix says the province, under former Premier Gordon Campbell, already handed over millions.
Dix says he is a big supporter of the arts, but if any new money is asked for provincially, an NDP government would have to "think it over."
"All of that money that is in place now. They have that money now so it has happened, right, the 50-million I believe it is but that is in place now. I would be very supportive of it I think it is a great idea for Vancouver but if new money were to be required from the province that would have to meet the test of spending against other proposals in other areas as well."
The city, which is not contributing any money, has given the art gallery two years to secure the funds to move from the downtown over to Cambie Street.
