We hear a lot about the Province's film industry needing a leg up. Now, an NDP candidate and digital media expert says the gaming industry needs help too.

Matt Toner, running in Vancouver-False Creek, says news that local gaming studio Pop Cap is shutting down highlights that the Provincial Government needs to get behind the struggling industry that's declined from 5-thousand to 3-thousand workers since 2009, "These are great jobs. They're cleaner, they're greener, they're well paid, they're creative, we're good at them and you're seeing a bit of the effect of that. And it also does come down to the competitiveness of the jurisdiction. Tax credits are a problem in Canada because Montreal and Toronto have much better systems than we do here in BC."

While Toner didn't say if the NDP would commit to a tax break if elected but said they have committed to working on strategies to retain talent and growing the sector going forward.
