The BC Trucking Association welcomes a new report from Metro Vancouver on emissions testing for big rigs.
President Louise Yako says the report clearly shows newer model trucks produce much lower emissions.
"For whatever reason, there were some trucks that were not meeting the emission standards of the day, and so I think Metro Vancouver and the ministry are going to be looking at how those particular vehicles can be identified so that they can be fixed."
Yako says this means the industry can regulate its own cuts to emissions, as it switches to newer trucks.
The report, sponsored in part by Air Care, found 75 per cent of trucks of the year 2007 and older contribute more than 90 per cent of diesel soot and nitrogen oxide emissions.
