The Federal Government is making changes to Canada's controversial Temporary Foreign Worker Program.
Immigration Minister Jason Kenney says employers will no longer be able to pay foreign workers up to 15 percent less than average wages -- and the fast tracking approval process is on hold. He says the government will also be recouping costs.
"We will be imposing what's called a privilige fee or a user fe for work permits for temporary foreign workers above the current fee of 150 dollars."
And Kenney says companies who request labour market opinions will pay for them.
Two unions are fighting BC mines using the program -- and the Royal Bank came under fire for replacing Canadian employees with temporary foreign workers.
