The Mayors of Surrey and Port Coquitlam were disappointed last night's leader's debate didn't focus more on public policy issues like transportation and education. Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts says it was surprising those topics weren't debated or discussed.
"I was watching for the issues to come to the forefront looking at public policy pieces around education around transportation and also too the recognition that cities are the economic generators for the province, so there has to be a partnership with how we move the economy forward and what that looks like in all of our communities."
Port Coquitlam Mayor Greg Moore says affordable housing and the environment should have been on the agenda as well.
"I think the challenging part was that they were so in their message boxes there was no reaching out to local government in anybody's comments."
At least 20 of the province's mayors are meeting in Prince George for the "BC mayor's caucus meeting."
