A new report has found that the living wage in Metro Vancouver for two working parents with two young children to be $19.62/hr.
The Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives says the living wage is the combined hourly rate two parents must earn to pay for basic family expenses, such as rent, child care, food and transportation.
And that's after taxes and other deductions.
This year's wage is up 48 cents from last year, almost double Vancouver’s inflation rate.
The centre and other groups are reiterating their call to B.C.’s employers to pay wages that reflect the actual costs of living, as well as to the next provincial government to take action against child poverty, such as adding more social housing or creating a publicly funded daycare system.
