The City of Surrey will have to work with the Ministry of Transportation to improve safety on 176th Street after a tragic crash this week. Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts says it is a provincial highway so the city can't act alone to make changes, "Well, I think that first and foremost, I want to say that we have a traffic camera there, the city does, ICBC does not have an intersection camera there. You know those are some of the conversations that we will be having as well with the Ministry staff in terms of if there is anything we can do."
On Tuesday, a mini-van ran a red light on 176th at 32nd Avenue crashing into another vehicle, killing five people. The victims were all from the same family. The mini-van driver survived and remains in hospital.
