NDP reinforce stance on pipeline

NDP leader Adrian Dix was at kits beach this morning to reaffirm his party's stance on pipeline expansion and fossil fuel exports.

Dix spoke to an upbeat crowd saying BC's coast must be protected, "The coast, our rivers, our streams have been essential to our economy and our culture. It's why the people of BC have spoken out so strongly on pipeline issues because they understand that projects such as Enbridge Northern Gateway are not in our environmental interest"

Dix adds the Liberal party remains unclear on their position.

He says the Liberals are only concerned about the dollar signs attached to the project and would sell our coast if the price was right.

Meanwhile, among the crowd was also Kevin Washbrook with Voters Taking Action On Climate Change-- hoping for Adrian Dix to clarify his position on US Coal port in Surrey, "Everthing he said about Kinder Morgan applies to US Coal exports in Surrey, it's the same arguement. We think we're getting there, to their credit this wasn't even an issue 6 months ago, I'm going to call it a progress. We're further ahead than we were  2 days ago and we now know NDP support public hearing".

Washbrooke says his goal before election day is to get support from every NDP candidate, including Bruce Ralston for Surrey/Whalley.

If approved, the Fraser Surrey Docks coal port proposal will turn the Port of Vancouver into a major US thermal coal exporter.
