Over 16,000 runners are expected to lace up and take part in the BMO Vancouver Marathon this morning.
Executive director for the Vancouver International Marathon Society, Charlene Krepiakevich, says paying tribute to victims of the Boston marathon bombings is a big part of this race.
“We will be giving runners a yellow ribbon to wear race day and we'll have a minute of silence at all four events. We're also donating $10 for every walk-up registration to the One Fund in Boston and BMO is contributing $25,000 to the same charitable initiative.”
The four events taking place include a kids run, an 8km run, a half marathon and a full marathon.
