A man convicted of murdering 14-year-old Chelsea Acorn is trying to appeal.
Jesse Blue West was found guilty of Acorn's first-degree murder back in January.
The girl ran away from her Abbotsford home in 2005, and her body was found the following year near Hope.
West's son, Dustin Moir, was also convicted in the death in 2010, but was recently ordered to get a new trial because the judge did not correctly instruct the jury.
Now, West is hoping for the same. In handwritten court documents, he says he was "mentally unstable" during the trial, that his legal team wasn't paid enough, and that he didn't have enough time to present his case.
He writes he got "the raw end of the deal because of (a) lack of funds and education."
During his trial, West had tried to prove Acorn's death was an accident.
