An 11-year-old boy from Vancouver has been declared a hero for saving his mother's life when she was choking.
Connor McCarthy says he remembered what to do because he'd taken a first aid course with the Canadian Red Cross two weeks earlier at his school.
"We were just relaxing on the couch eating dinner and she just threw her tray on the ground and I was just really shocked. First, I kind of thought, did something happen? Did she leave the stove on? Like, 'cause she just rushed off the couch and I heard some gasping noises. So I just ran after her and she pointed to her throat and I just grabbed, got her and did the Heimlich maneuver out there."
Earlier today, the sixth grader was presented with the Red Cross First Aid & Water Safety Rescuer Award.
