The Vancouver School Board is looking at giving students, literally, a chair at the table in school board matters.
Trustee Mike Lombardi says they would ideally like to add what they call a student trustee.
Lombardi says it’s time to give students an actual voice in matters concerning them directly.
"Absolutely. The idea here is that we all talk about putting students first. Students should be foremost on our mind. We are saying lets do that. Lets walk the talk and bring a student to the board table and have them directly bring their ideas and focus the conversation, and we think it is a great leadership opportunity."
Lombardi says it would require legislation at the provincial level.
He says they will meet with the students Monday to hammer out framework to choose a student trustee, and then take it to the new provincial government.
