A Burnaby teacher has had his certificate cancelled for three years after a violent incident outside of school. Documents from BC's Teacher Regulation Branch say Douglas James Luymes went to someone's house in response to a Craigslist ad for sex in 2008.
They got into a dispute and "physical confrontation," and the person called police. Luymes was arrested and charged with assault and forcible confinement.
He resigned from the Burnaby School District, and later pleaded guilty. He was ordered to sign a "peace bond."
The College of Teachers investigated once the trial was over in late 2009. They found his conduct, while outside the classroom, was, nonetheless, "unbecoming a teacher." The process took time because of delays on Luymes' part. The District has now cancelled his teaching certificate for three years.
