The unions say they may have lost the battle but have won the war, after a federal court dismisses their challenge of HD Mining's application to bring in temporary foreign workers.
Brian Cochrane, with the International Union of Operating Engineers local 115, says he is, of course, disappointed with the decision that effectively lets a B.C. mine move forward with bringing in 200 foreign workers. but he says all is not lost.
"In real terms he says this case has been a real success on shedding light onto the Temporary Foreign Worker program and how it has been ineffictive at protecting Canadian's interest."
Cochrane says he is hopeful that changes the federal government made to the Temporary Foreign Worker program a few weeks ago will prevent a situation like this one from ever happening again.
