The Criminal Justice Branch has decided not to lay charges against an RCMP officer involved in a crash with a motorcyclist in Campbell River last year – even though charges were recommended by the Independent Investigation Office.
A news release from the branch says there was no substantial likelihood of conviction in the case.
However, the rider of the motorcycle is facing charges of impaired driving and dangerous driving.
The Crown says the man, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered significant injuries when he crashed and slid into the RCMP cruiser that was blocking the lane.
The officer said he was trying to get out of the way when the crash occurred.
