The Vancouver School Board is braced for any labour unrest, if it occurs. School support workers in the district represented by CUPE have voted in favour of job action, and are now waiting for other locals to follow suit.
School Board Chair Patti Bacchus says there is little the District can do, but watch, "Well, we are hoping that we don't have any labour unrest that affect schools, or the operation of the district, but we are always prepared. We have procedures in place if that occurs, then we take steps. We look at what that might look like. I haven't had any indication that there would be a full-on strike action or pickets of schools but we are still in a wait and see mode."
Bacchus says she is also watching teacher's contract talks in case the push for a ten year deal causes things to go off the rails.
