Another high profile politician is speaking out against the proposed Northern Gateway Pipeline.
Federal Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau says he applauds the BC government's stand on turning down the latest proposal for the 5.5 billion dollar pipeline.
Trudeau gave his approval while speaking at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Conference in Vancouver today.
"The economic cost on coastal communities of the Northern Gateway proposal as well as the environmental cost was simply going to be too high, and that is why I have been steadfast in my opposition to that particular Northern Gateway proposal from the beginning."
Trudeau also commented on the Kitsilano Coast Guard base closure.
He says the government is consistently choosing to save pennies on the backs of Canadian's safety.
Trudeau says he has a personal connection to the matter.
The Federal Liberal Leader says he learned to sail off of Jericho Beach as a child, because his grandmother enrolled him in a sailing camp there.
