Over 100 people gathered at the Vancouver Art Gallery to take part in the 3rd annual Slut Walk this afternoon.

Slut Walk is a controversial title, especially for an event wanting to put an end to victim-blaming in sexual assault cases.

But, event organizer Caitlin MacDonald says they got the name from an unlikely source.

"It was spurred by a talk that was given by a police offer at York University; it was a harm reduction speech.  The words that he used were, if women wanted to prevent being sexually assaulted; they needed to just stop dressing like sluts."

MacDonald says their goal is to bring attention to the culture of sexual violence we live in.

"Unfortunately it is really widespread and still held that women or anyone who is sexually assaulted are in any way to blame for their sexual assaults.   Instead of teaching don't get raped, we should be teaching don't rape."

She says she hopes more events will be organized throughout the year.
