More than three years after Vancouver hosted the Olympics, 10 portable screening units used by the security team are still being stored in Richmond.
CKNW contributor Bob Mackin says the units are collectively worth $4-million, but Mathieu Larocque with the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority says they can't be sold because they may be needed in the future and the cost to purchase similar equipment would be much higher than to keep them in storage.
New Democrat MP Finn Donnelly is accusing the federal government of wasting money which could have been used to save the Kitsilano Coast Guard station.
The cost of storing the units near the South Terminal at Vancouver International Airport has already topped $70-thousand.
