RCMP and conservation officers are tracking three adult bears, that could be on the loose in a neighbourhood near the Burnaby-New Westminster border.
Burnaby RCMP Staff Sgt. GhalibBhayani says the bears were spotted in the Craig Avenue, Cariboo and Holmes area last evening.
"Police attended and actually confirmed three adult bears that were scared off into the bushes. Looking around the neighbourhood, we determined that several garbage cans had been overturned and it appears that the bears were looking for some sort of food."
Police are warning people living in the area to keep a closer watch on their children and pets until the bears are tracked down.
While it's not unusual for bears to be spotted in Burnaby, Bhayani says it's the first time he's seen the animals in this particular neighbourhood.
