Buses pulled after making drivers sick

An entire fleet of brand new buses have been pulled out of service in the Tri-Cities area... after two drivers became ill with symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning.

"We're going to keep that fleet parked until we can find an appropriate fix for those vehicles."

Derek Zabel with the Coast Mountain Bus Company says the 26 community shuttles were only in service five weeks.

"We had some that just weren't feeling well, because of these odours, getting some headaches, so we decided to park the entire fleet and maintenance is still currently working on the solution right now."

While he insists all the buses passed 'rigorous' inspections, Zabel couldn't confirm the source of the problem is diesel fumes escaping into the driver's compartment through the air intake vent.

Worksafe BC is also investigating.
