65,000 Calgarians are allowed to head home to do self-assessments Sunday afternoon.
Reporter Joe McFarland with CKNW's sister station in Calgary says people are being told to check the city's website to see if they're in a zone where they can go to their homes.
Once they're there they need to make sure their street or sidewalk is dry.
"If that's the case then they can go to the next step. If they go to the next step, go into their house and they notice the water is above their electricity outlets in their basement, then obviously water and electricity don't mix, so get out of their house and go back to the check-in centre.
If there is no water above the outlets, they can write what they need on pieces of paper -- things like electricity and water -- to be posted on their door.
City crews will come around and take note.
About 10,000 people will not be allowed to go home.
