The man blamed in the sinking of the BC Ferry "Queen of the North" has been handed four years in prison by a BC Supreme Court judge.
Karl Lilgert has just been sentenced.
He was found guilty on two counts of criminal negligence causing death.
Two people died when the ferry hit Gil Island and went under in March of 2006.
Lilgert said the weather was awful that night and he had to dodge around a "mystery boat".
But others who testified said the weather was fine--and there was no boat.
The crown said Lilgert was a liar who didn't do his job that night of the sinking.
The judge has said this wasn't a case of a split second decision gone bad---it was a case of Lilgert completely and totally not doing his job.
Lilgert was granted bail late this afternoon.
