The union representing BC Hydro workers says due to government mismanagement taxpayers will now have to pay the piper.
Canadian Office and Professional Employees Union Local 3-78 President David Black says the government has run up the utilities debt.
Black says that means rates are about to go 'way up, "We are looking at something, probably something closer to over 20-percent this year alone would be warranted by the debt charges that have been accumulated and going up from there in subsequent years. So it is going to be very bad for ratepayers in British Columbia."
Black says the Province has hidden Hydro's soaring debt in deferral accounts. He says they also allowed massive cost overruns on the Northwest Transmission Line project.
