With a scorching long weekend anticipated, the provincial Wildfire Coordination Centre is asking for the public to exercise vigilance when lighting fires.
Fire Information Officer, Erin Catherall says this is set to be one of the hottest Canada Day weekends in years, and that means those starting small fires need to do so with care.
"With these warm conditions, this will increase the fire danger rating for the province as well as dry out forest fuels. So we are encouraging the public to be extra careful with their campfires over the long weekend."
Catherall reminds those lighting fires that the width and height cannot excede half a metre -- and people must have eight litres of water or a shovel nearby.
