A coroner's inquest will be held in the death of a Prince George man shot and killed by the RCMP.

Gregory John Matters, 40, died last September.

B.C.’s new police watchdog office ruled the Mounties acted properly when the attempted arrest of the former soldier ended in a deadly shooting.

But the family called that decision a “bitter” disappointment.

Family members say while Matters may have been difficult at times, he was not a dangerous man.

They say Mounties should have taken the time to call in his psychiatrist to calm him down.

Matters suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder.

The inquest will be held in October.
