A mother and daughter horse ride in Ladner last night has ended with the mother dead and the daughter being treated in hospital.
Delta Police Sgt. Ciaran Feenan says it is "just a tragic accident."
Feenan says a 43-year-old woman and her 18-year-old daughter were on their horses when their mounts were spooked by a dog.
The horses bolted, throwing the woman off right away, while the daughter was tossed off as her horse as it tried to jump a ditch.
"Residents in the area immediately began CPR on the mother. Members of the BC Ambulance Service and Delta Fire arrived on scene and took over providing further medical attention.
"The mother was then transported to Vancouver General hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased. The daughter was subsequently taken to local hospital where she was treated for her injuries including scrapes to her face and bruising to her left leg."
As for the horses, Feenan says both were checked out by a veterinarian and they are okay.
It was quiet today at the stable on 34th Street just off River Road, with staff wiping away tears.
People there say the mother and daughter were supposed to be walk their horses, one of them being new.
