BC's minister of education says his government's proposed ten year deal with teachers has room for some "creativity."
Peter Fassbender says the proposed ten year deal could possibly include an opt out clause, similar to what was included in the 20 year RCMP contract with Ottawa.
"I think there is potential to talk about anything that will ensure number one that we have the stability we are looking for but also protections for both the teachers and for the provincial government. None of us know what is going to happen three years from now, two years from now. So we have to have the flexibility."
Fassbender says he will spend the summer sitting down with stakeholders to lay out how talks will work and what each group's role will be.
"So I just simply said to Jim Iker and I am saying to teachers trhoughout the province, lets sit down talk about what that framework is and then talk about what an agreement could look like and what the options are."
Due to teachers taking the summer off talks ended about a week ago and won't resume until early September.
