Two people are dead after a fire at a Coquitlam home about midnight, and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been called in.
Firefighters called to the home in the 1100 block of Cottonwood Avenue found the flames burning heavily in one section of the house.
IHIT spokesperson Sgt. Jennifer Pound says investigators have no suspects: "Actually, we don't believe a third individual is involved. We do believe that the deaths are suspicious and we're not prepared to go into further detail about the suspicious nature of it."
Pound says they are right now looking to identify the victims and conduct an autopsy to determine cause of death.
A daycare operated at the home, called Le Petit Pommier. Online listings name the manager as Agnes Comte.
Pound advises parents to not bring their kids over, and to contact police if they have any information.
The cause of the fire isn't known.
A neighbour three homes away says he heard nothing overnight, but there are reports others heard a scream and then a bang before the fire broke out.
One young man who drove up around 6:30 says he was here to drop off his dog at the home, which is where his girlfriend's parents live.
Another woman, emotional, drove up at 7:15. She says she usually drops her kids off at the house's daycare, Le Petit Pommier, but left them at home after reports of the tragedy and came to see for herself.
The home was recently sold by realtor Chris Townsend.
“I knew them both well, really nice people, going through some tough times, and my thoughts go out to the three children involved.”
Two of the children are in the 20s, the third in the mid-teens.
No one else was in the house at the time.
