While BC's Health Minister continues to defend a controversial drug used to help smokers quit, a woman from Sechelt is demanding the government stop endorsing Champix.
Alicia Pickering says she became suicidal after she started taking the drug in May of 2008.
"I would tell doctors not to prescribe it. I would tell pharmacists not to stock it. I would tell smokers not to take it. We need to protect the public."
Health Minister Terry Lake says the government will continue providing Champix to BC smokers because research has shown it is safe, but the NDP's health critic has accused the Liberals of ignoring evidence it's dangerous.
