VPD's new ride

A ride in the back seat probably won't look or feel any different, but Vancouver's fleet of police cars is getting an upgrade.

The familiar Ford Crown Victoria, no longer in production, is being phased out in favour of the Dodge Charger.

The force says the new cruisers feature a 'rumbler siren.'

"When we activate it, it sends almost like a vibration through the air, and it's supposed to alert drivers...even if they have a loud stereo."

Constable Brian Montague adds the cars come with a new decal job.

"We had someone earlier say that it looked very RoboCop-ish!  I'm not too sure what that means exactly, but it's a great looking car."

The old cars will be replaced over the next four years.
