The sentencing hearing for the young man who brutally beat a Delta teenager nearly three years ago, is set to get underway in Surrey today.
Lawyers will be arguing why the man should be sentenced as an adult or as a youth.
The man was just a few days shy of his 18th birthday when 15-year-old Laura Szendrei was killed in September of 2010, so can't be named.
Szendrei was attacked while on a path in Mackie Park, and died the next day.
The man pleaded guilty to second degree murder last October.
If sentenced as an adult, he'll get life in prison.
He would not be eligible to apply for parole for seven years.
If he is sentenced as a youth, he'll be handed seven years.
Up to four would be behind bars, the rest served in the community.
