White Rock residents are in shock after a woman is struck and killed by a train in a popular walking area.
The woman was using a designated crosswalk in the East Beach area near Finlay and close to the Sandpiper Pub around 9:00 last night.
RCMP Inspector Sandro Colasacco says the woman tried to get across, but did not make it.
"She was struck by a northbound Amtrak passenger train. She unfortunately did not survive her injuries and died at the scene."
Colasacco says they are investigating why the woman did not stop and wait for the train.
He says they may never know the answer.
The woman was with her husband at the time, and he was not injured.
