A Surrey courtroom is hearing victim impact statements from family members of Laura Szendrei, the teen murdered in a Delta park three years ago.
Szendrei's mother, father, aunts and cousin have chosen to have Crown counsel read their statements, crying as their words were read.
Her mother Rachel spoke of the pain of losing her child, getting more painful as the years passed, and despite years of watching over laura, one moment of her being alone and vulnerable lead to tragedy.
Earlier, the Crown and defense lawyers made their arguments during the man's sentencing hearing as to whether he should be sentenced as a youth or adult.
The man cannot be named because he was 17 at the time. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder last fall.
