As more tests are being done to determine why actor Cory Monteith died, police in Abbotsford are reporting an increase in heroin overdoses in that community.
Since mid-May, seven heroin overdoses have been recorded.
They haven't compiled all the numbers yet, but police are predicting medical emergency calls have spiked nearly 40 per cent in recent months.
They say front line officers have been told it's because stronger heroin is on the market.
On May 30th, health officials issued a warning about the drug being cut with fentanyl.
Police say they're now testing a sample, but couldn't wait for the results before issuing a public warning for users to be careful and never shoot up when they're alone.
