BC Ferries' plan to build three new vessels has reignited the war of words over where to build the ships.
Ferries faced a storm of controversy for its decision to build the three celebration class ferries in Germany, where they came in on time and under budget.
Now the corporation is inviting bids for three intermediate vessels from both Canadian and international shipyards, and Transportation Minister Todd Stone says the decision is up to them.
"Government does not have the purview to dictate to BC Ferries."
But New Democrat MLA Nick Simons disagrees.
"Without a doubt the British Columbia government could ensure that these jobs remain in British Columbia."
And the BC Federation of Labour is also weighing in, saying the ferries should be built in BC.
