Vancouver City councillors have approved a controversial new bike share program that willl cost taxpayers at least six million dollars.

The plan calls for a launch of the bike share program early 2014, with 24 stations and 250 bikes.

A full launch will happen later in the spring, with 150 stations and 1500 bikes.

Portland based "Alta" will be the vendor.

There will be a six million dollar, one time contribution from the City of Vancouver for infrastructure costs, and then 500 thousand dollars annually.
