It’s been nearly a month without rain in Metro Vancouver, and North Shore fire chiefs are urging people to take extra precautions outdoors because the fire danger rating could soon climb to “extreme.”
North Vancouver District Assistant Fire Chief Curtis Bremner says an “extreme” rating could trigger the closure of some trails.
"Yes, we have closed trails in the past and we will consider that, particularly if we're in a period of extreme fire danger rating for a period of time."
Officials note even a discarded glass bottle or jar can act as a magnifying glass and start a fire.
