A water ban is in place indefinitely as officials study the impacts of Friday's jet fuel spill in the Slocan Valley.
While most of the 35-thousand litres of spilled fuel has vaporized the interior health authority says residents shouldn't drink or irrigate crops with surface water from the area.
Swimming and other recreational activities are also restricted.
Bill Macpherson with the regional district of Central Kootenay Emergency Operations Centre says while air and water samples are within standard levels, people need to stay away from the water for their own safety and health.
Dead fish have been found along the shore, adding to concerns over the safety of the water.
Executive flight services, the company in charge of the tanker that crashed and spilled the fuel, is in charge of clean-up efforts.
