Some motorists taking the new Port Mann bridge today were hammered by big chunks of falling ice.

The ice fell from cables above the span.

RCMP were called in and shut down the bridge.

At least two people were hurt and a number of vehicles have been damaged.

ICBC says it's now processing at least 60 claims.

An engineer has been up on the bridge, checking it out to make sure it's safe.

This caller says it's an 'absolute nightmare:' "Large ice balls landing on our cars! I just had one put a big dent in my hood.  It's about a foot long, ice balls from the wires and it is like a nightmare.  It is freaky. I have a glass ceiling and it's like, scaring the hell out of me."

Other callers to the CKNW newsroom are reporting windshields have been cracked or entirely smashed.
