The City of Vancouver will decide Friday on whether to award a contract for seismic upgrades to the Granville Street Bridge a month early.
The lowest bid of just over 5-point-6 million dollars was from Graham Construction and Engineering.
The work will include replacing bearings and expansion joints at 7 spots on the bridge, expected to boost seismic resilience.
An administrative report claims awarding the contract ahead of schedule will allow contractors additional time to order the specialized bearings, which take three months to arrive.
It will also allow contractors to work on the project without negatively effecting business on Granville Island.
The city says it will liaise with Granville Island to make sure disruptions are minimized during the project.
Money for the project comes from the capital budget.
