White Rock man says Toyota's announcement of settlement made at wrong time

A White Rock man who claims his son was killed due to an unintended acceleration problem in a Toyota vehicle says he's fuming at Toyota's timing.

Ron Eves says the auto-giant should have waited until after the holidays to announce the $1-billion settlement with hundreds of Toyota owners over car value plummeting because of recalls.

"It's a huge insult I think to anyone whose family has lost a loved one while driving a toyota."

Ron's son, Chris Eves, was killed in Washington State in 2007 while driving one of the vehicles recalled by Toyota.

The Eves family had to get a US senator involved to get answers from Toyota on what had happened.

Those seeking compensation for injury and death due to vehicle defects are not part of this settlement.

They will be heading to trial in February.
