Dozens of civilian and police heroes have been honoured by Vancouver's police chief for their bravery and hard work.
Many recipients of the commendations and certificates of merit took action while others stood by and watched the 2011 Stanley Cup riot unfold.
Some suffered injuries as they stepped in to protect other innocent people and keep vandals from destroying public and private property.
Constable Mike Laurin was also recognized for surviving a brick to the head and suffering a concussion.
He says he didn't realize how seriously he was hurt until feeling sick the following day when he reported for duty.
