Starting today, generic prescription drugs will cost less in B.C.
The prices have dropped from 35 per cent of brand-name drugs to 20 per cent.
NDP health critic Mike Farnworth says this is good, albeit belated, news: “I certainly think it's a great start in the area of saving money. I think it's something that we are going to have to now watch and make sure that we do achieve the savings that are anticipated.”
He says the Liberal government should have made the move two years ago, as Ontario did.
The new model is estimated to save the province $110 million over two years.
