The Vancouver School Board is looking at dozens of cuts to try to keep the bottom line balanced next year.
Chair Patti Bacchus says the 2013-14 budget proposal has management making many small cuts to make up the $7.91-million shortfall.
One of the larger savings is $600,000 to eliminate teachers, which she says is done by taking a fraction of teaching hours from the district’s 110 schools.
"In this case, they feel they could take the equivalent of 8.4 teachers out of the system and still come out within the class size limits."
The board is looking to bring in money by getting more international students enrolled, which would add 7.4 full-time teaching positions.
Bacchus says she now wants to hear from parents before the final vote on the budget April 29.
