Metro Vancouver wants to get the region's share of the Federal Gas Tax back under its control.
The board voted years ago to give its portion to Translink, which has totalled about $800-million dollars over the past decade.
But chair Greg Moore says Translink hasn't been governed by elected officials for a while now, but an appointed board.
He says it's time to bring the federal funding back under the district's purview.
"We know, as Metro Vancouver, we have about $5 billion worth of capital infrastructure that we need to build over the next 10 years. We also know at the same time that Translink also has some major capital programs that they're working on. So it's about looking at what's the greatest need within the region, and not just looking at one aspect over another."
The board has voted to write Ottawa and Victoria, asking to take part the next time the funds are handed out.
