BC's Community Minister wants to tame the "wild west" of municipal elections when the local government vote arrives again next year. Bill Bennett says he wants municipal elections to have the same rules and regulations as Provincial or Federal elections, "Yeah, I have been working on the local governments elections act now, since I came back into the ministry in the fall and I was the co-chair of the task force with UBCM that made the report and we are in a position now where if we get re-elected we will be able to bring that legislation in, in the next session."
Bennett says he wants more disclosure of municpal campaign expenses, including requiring candidates to disclose donations. He also wants rules around third party advertising to prevent a local election from being hijacked.
