A man who killed a mother in front of three of her children in Burnaby four years ago has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 15 years.
In September 2009, the victim was watching TV when her estranged common-law husband stabbed her repeatedly with a large kitchen knife while three of her children watched and screamed.
The man claimed he was suffering from a mental illness, but the judge found he was lucid enough to understand the consequences of his violence.
He was convicted in January.
His lawyers were seeking the minimum ten years for parole eligibility while prosecutors sought up to 17 years of incarceration.
The man cannot be named because of a publication ban.
