Translink has begun its second round of public consultations over the future of the Pattullo Bridge.
About 50 people showed up in New Westminster to hear details of the 25 different options to repair or replace the bridge.
However, there was no clear winner, "Keeping the Pattullo as a bike/walking path and building a new bridge. Something that has higher capacity than what is there right now. There is a lot of depth in all the various options that I still want to wade through. They have 25 of them so we have got lots of options. The rehabilitated bridge with the three lanes, or certainly anything that stays four lanes whether that is a new bridge or not. No, I don't know which one, I would like to see how the community reacts to the different options."
People also voiced their concerns about increases in traffic in building any new span.
Out of the 25 options to repair or replace the Pattullo Bridge, Translink is recomending six proposals.
They include upgrading the current bridge to three or four lanes, or a new four, five, or six lane span.
Darren Woodworth says after public consulations New Westminster, Surrey, and Translink will whittle the choices down, "We want to get public feedback on such things as the problem statement, the objectors, and suggested options for moving forward. If the public agrees with those options we will move forward with that and start to do more investigations such as looking at connections, traffic impacts."
He says new bridge or not, the Pattullo is going to get a seismic upgrade to make it safe until it's future becomes clearer.
